Southwest Virginia Civil War Symposium
Members of the Round Table attended the First Annual Southwest Virginia Civil War Symposium at Saltville, sponsored by the Smyth-Bland Regional Library and the Friends of the Museum of the Middle Appalachians. The symposium was held in the Madame Russell United Methodist Church, and speakers included two members of the Roanoke Civil War Round Table, Bob Whisonant and Scott Cole.
Bob Whisonant is on the front row, and spoke on finding and mapping Saltville Forts and efforts to preserve the battlefield. He is Professor, Department of Geology, at Radford University. Behind are Jim Atkinson, Eddie Wheeler (partially blocked), Betty Rice, Clive Rice and Scott Cole, who is partially blocked. Scott spoke on the salt works and Toland's Raid.
